Three days in Dubai for the cool season

Three days in Dubai in the cool season: old Dubai and the Creek on day one, Downtown and a seasonal park on day two, and a mountain or desert day on day three, with Global Village for an evening.

Day 1: old Dubai

Begin in Al Fahidi, cross the Creek by abra, and spend the late afternoon in the Spice and Gold Souks. Dinner can be on either bank. This is the part of Dubai that does not look like the postcards, and it works best on foot. See Old Dubai: the Creek, abras and Al Fahidi.

Day 2: Downtown and a seasonal park

Book a timed ticket for Burj Khalifa and stay for the Dubai Fountain after dark. In the morning, or on another day if you have time, Dubai Miracle Garden is open to 31 May 2027 and Dubai Safari Park has reopened for its eighth season. Pick one: both are long outdoor days.

Day 3: Hatta, the desert or Global Village

For mountains, drive to Hatta for the dam and Wadi Hub. For the desert, a sunrise hot air balloon flight needs an early start. For an evening, Global Village, open until May 2027, is open from 4pm; go on a weekday to avoid queues. Dubai Shopping Festival (4 December to 17 January) adds crowds and events across the city.

Getting around, and where to base yourself

The Dubai Metro and tram cover the main corridors and are the cheapest way to get between Downtown, the Marina and the airports; a Nol card covers metro, tram, bus and abra. Taxis are plentiful and ride-hailing is reliable, but traffic is heavy at rush hours and on Friday and Saturday nights. Allow extra time for anything with a fixed ticket, such as Burj Khalifa.

For a first visit, Downtown suits those who want the towers and the fountain nearby, the Marina and JBR suit beach and nightlife, and Bur Dubai and Deira put you next to the old Creek. Book hotels early for December and January.

If you have an extra day

Add Hatta for the mountains, Sharjah for the museums and the old town, or a sunrise balloon flight if you can manage an early start. A fourth day also lets you see Global Village on a calm weekday evening instead of cramming it into the end of a long day.

If it is raining or very hot

Dubai has strong indoor options for the days the weather does not cooperate. The Museum of the Future was reported closed for a reimagined visitor experience until the first quarter of 2027, so check before you plan around it; the Dubai Mall aquarium and the big malls are always open, and the Dubai Frame, the Creek and Al Fahidi are best saved for cooler evenings. In the warmer shoulder months, put outdoor sights early and late and use the middle of the day for museums and lunch.

A final tip: Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest times for restaurants and attractions, and Sunday is calmer. If you can shift your itinerary so the headline experiences land on a weekday, queues shrink.
