Jebel Jais is the highest peak in the UAE at about 1,934 metres. Its Jais Flight zipline is about 2.8 kilometres long and holds the Guinness record as the world's longest, the Jais Sledder is a mountain toboggan run of roughly 1.8 kilometres, and the summit road is a drive in itself. Book ahead and check the weather.
What there is to do
The headline is Jais Flight, a zipline of about 2.83 kilometres that is recognised as the longest in the world, in which you lie flat and cross a mountain valley at speeds reported in the region of 120 kilometres an hour. A longer Sky Tour links several ziplines, and the Jais Sledder is a toboggan-style ride on a track of roughly 1.8 kilometres through the hillside, which is gentler and good for families. There is also a viewing deck and trails.
Age, height and weight limits apply and differ between attractions, and some are strict. Check the operator's limits before you travel with children.
Weather and timing
The summit is several degrees cooler than the coast, which is part of the appeal in winter and a relief in shoulder months. Fog, wind or rain can close the ziplines at short notice, so build in a margin and book through a flexible channel. Mornings are the clearest. A sunrise drive up the mountain road is a good alternative if you do not want to zip.
Planning and staying
Jebel Jais is about 90 minutes from Dubai and closer from Ras Al Khaimah city. Book timed slots in advance, especially on weekends. Camping on the mountain is a common search; managed sites and permitted areas only, and see our guide to camping rules. For events in Ras Al Khaimah, we produce hotel and ballroom events only; see our Ras Al Khaimah page.
